A historic rematch in the works
The UFC world is holding its breath: Sean Strickland and Nassourdine Imavov are set to face off again at UFC 335, scheduled for December in Las Vegas. After their first meeting in 2023, won by Strickland on points, this rematch is shaping up to be one of the most explosive fights of the year.
The middleweight champion, Strickland, recently defended his title in impressive fashion against Khamzat Chimaev last June. A performance that solidified his status as the favorite heading into this rematch. Meanwhile, Imavov, undefeated in his last five fights, has strung together impressive performances, headlining two UFC Fight Night events against Caio Borralho and Paulo Costa.
Is Imavov an underrated opponent?
Despite his rapidly rising record, Imavov remains criticized by some, including Strickland himself. The latter recently called his opponent a "fake Frenchman", a comment that sparked reactions in the MMA community. Yet, with five straight wins since his loss to Strickland, Imavov has plenty to silence the doubters.
Negotiations for this rematch are now in their final stages, with a focus on financial details. A crucial step before official confirmation, which could well give birth to one of the most anticipated fights of the year.
This rematch between Strickland and Imavov promises to be electric. Between Imavov’s quest for redemption and Strickland’s drive to confirm his dominance, the UFC 335 octagon in Las Vegas could well write a new chapter in middleweight history.
