The UFC world is holding its breath: Carlos Prates, the Brazilian welterweight prodigy, has issued a historic challenge to Islam Makhachev, the undefeated Russian lightweight champion. With an impressive record of 15 wins with no losses, including 12 KOs, the Brazilian is known for his explosive style and surgical precision. His latest feat? A first-round KO against Jack Della Maddalena in May 2026, cementing his status as an unstoppable force at 77 kg. "I’m going to KO you, brother," he told Makhachev, promising his country its first welterweight champion.
A Duel That Could Change Everything
Makhachev, aware of the danger, has himself named Prates as his most credible next opponent. The Russian, accustomed to quick finishes in the lightweight division, will need to adapt his game against a Brazilian who relies on aggression and power. If Prates manages to outmaneuver the champion’s plans, he could not only claim the belt in December but also face Michael Morales the following summer in a fight that promises to be electric.
