Tsarukyan takes on Ruffy: a second chance after the setback against Makhachev

Fate struck first by canceling the fight between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, forcing the Armenian to bounce back against Maurício Ruffy. A redemption after the setback against Islam Makhachev and a risky gamble to revive his career.

To remember:

  • The fight between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, scheduled for September 2026, is canceled following the death of a training partner from Charles Oliveira's team.
  • Tsarukyan, after his controversial withdrawal against Islam Makhachev in January 2024, now faces Maurício Ruffy to revive his career.
  • This bout against Ruffy, ranked 12th in the lightweight division, is a bold gamble for the Armenian—between a comeback opportunity and the risk of renewed criticism.

A Fight Canceled by Fate

In September 2026, the MMA world held its breath: the clash between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan was about to happen. Yet, fate had other plans. The tragic death of a training partner from Charles Oliveira's team plunged Chute Boxe into deep mourning, making it impossible to hold this long-awaited fight. News that left fans and pundits in shock, especially since this duel promised to be one of the most explosive of the year.

For Tsarukyan, this cancellation is another harsh blow after his controversial withdrawal against Islam Makhachev in January 2024. The Armenian, determined to erase this disappointment, quickly found an alternative: facing Maurício Ruffy, a less prestigious opponent but one that could offer him a second chance. A decision that shows his resilience, but also the challenges ahead.

A Bold Gamble to Revive His Career

Agreeing to fight Ruffy, currently ranked 12th in the lightweight division, is a risky strategic choice for Tsarukyan. While the Brazilian made an impression in his last UFC Casa Branca appearance, his record remains less impressive than that of Charles Oliveira. For the Armenian, this fight could be a golden opportunity to confirm his comeback—or, on the contrary, a trap that would reignite criticism in case of defeat.

This bout against Ruffy fits into a rebuilding strategy for Tsarukyan. After the setback against Makhachev, where he had to withdraw due to injury, the Armenian is looking to prove he remains a formidable opponent. A win over Ruffy could earn him a spot back among the elite, while a loss could further weaken his standing in the lightweight division.

Between resilience and calculated risk, Arman Tsarukyan takes on a new challenge against Maurício Ruffy. A golden opportunity to bounce back after recent setbacks, but also a gamble that could either revive his career or push him further down. This fight could well redefine the Armenian's future in the Octagon. Stay tuned.

Damn, this shitty luck, it reminds me of when Batman gets played like a Russian nesting doll by the Joker all over again. Oliveira and Tsarukyan, two guys who could’ve given us a $200,000 fireworks show, and bam—fate slams the door in our faces like a 24 episode in natural disaster mode. Tsarukyan’s got the mindset of a samurai, but now he’s got to play OSS 117 in "I’m taking the risk because I’ve got no choice" mode. Ruffy’s not the big bad of the year, but if the Armenian wins, he’ll at least prove his withdrawal against Makhachev wasn’t a lost poker move. If not, we might get a Jurassic Park remake, "injured dino" edition—everyone’s gonna talk about his fragility again. Good luck, guys, and above all, let’s hope Ruffy doesn’t pull a Hulk Smash on him live.
